Course Description: Students work toward knowledge and competencies required to pass GED exams in social studies and language arts.

Prerequisite: CASAS GOALS Reading Score 243+; (or Accuplacer Reading Next Gen 237+). Concurrent enrollment in either HSC 018 or ELA 018, or HSC 018 or ELA 018 with a D or higher.

  1. Analyze and interpret charts, maps, and graphs to identify relevant information for supporting claims.
  2. Identify causal relationships versus correlation or sequential order of events in a text.
  3. Apply reading strategies to understand, analyze, summarize, and compare arguments, passages, and texts.
  4. Apply writing skills to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning, and relevant and sufficient evidence.
  5. Demonstrate test-taking skills by successfully passing sections of the GED test.
