Course Description: Students work toward knowledge and competencies required to pass GED exams in social studies and language arts.
Prerequisite: CASAS GOALS Reading Score 243+; (or Accuplacer Reading Next Gen 237+). Concurrent enrollment in either HSC 018 or ELA 018, or HSC 018 or ELA 018 with a D or higher. Meets FQE Requirement: No Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Analyze and interpret charts, maps, and graphs to identify relevant information for supporting claims.
- Identify causal relationships versus correlation or sequential order of events in a text.
- Apply reading strategies to understand, analyze, summarize, and compare arguments, passages, and texts.
- Apply writing skills to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning, and relevant and sufficient evidence.
- Demonstrate test-taking skills by successfully passing sections of the GED test.
