EAP 055 - Connect I: Listening and Speaking

Course Description: An intensive course for English language learners with an emphasis on communication skills that will prepare students for EAP 65.

Prerequisite: Appropriate placement test score; or instructor permission.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Speak for understanding by focusing on English for everyday communication.
  2. Distinguish vowel and consonant sounds, syllables, word stress, minimal pairs, linking words, word endings, thought groups, and reductions.
  3. Present topics and new vocabulary using select media such as Microsoft PowerPoint and/or videos.
  4. Take notes on level appropriate presentations, lectures, and videos.
  5. Ask conversational questions.
  6. Ask content questions about presentations, lectures, and class discussions.
  7. Engage in an experiential learning project such as the International Music Collective radio show and/or the Conversation Partner Program.
  8. Communicate how power, privilege, equity, and empathy affect our daily lives by engaging with culturally and linguistically diverse texts and media.
