Course Description: An intensive course for English language learners with an emphasis on communication skills that will prepare students for EAP 65.
Prerequisite: Appropriate placement test score; or instructor permission. Meets FQE Requirement: No Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Speak for understanding by focusing on English for everyday communication.
- Distinguish vowel and consonant sounds, syllables, word stress, minimal pairs, linking words, word endings, thought groups, and reductions.
- Present topics and new vocabulary using select media such as Microsoft PowerPoint and/or videos.
- Take notes on level appropriate presentations, lectures, and videos.
- Ask conversational questions.
- Ask content questions about presentations, lectures, and class discussions.
- Engage in an experiential learning project such as the International Music Collective radio show and/or the Conversation Partner Program.
- Communicate how power, privilege, equity, and empathy affect our daily lives by engaging with culturally and linguistically diverse texts and media.
