Course Description: An intensive course for English language learners with an emphasis on communication skills that will prepare students for EAP 75.
Prerequisite: Appropriate placement test score; C or higher in EAP 55; or instructor permission. Meets FQE Requirement: No Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Speak for understanding through partner interviews, group discussions, and presentations.
- Use level-appropriate academic vocabulary.
- Use correct words stress in sentences, pronounce syllable schwa sounds, and demonstrate speech melody.
- Share new vocabulary, ideas, and topics.
- Use select media such as Microsoft PowerPoint and/or videos to give presentations on assigned topics.
- Take notes that correctly utilize key words, abbreviations, and symbols.
- Identify main ideas about assigned listening material.
- Engage in experiential learning projects (such as participating in on-campus activities and/or the Head Start story-telling project).
- Communicate how power, privilege, equity, and empathy affect our daily lives by engaging with culturally and linguistically diverse texts and media.
