EAP 075 - Connect III: Listening and Speaking

Course Description: An intensive course for English language learners with an emphasis on communication skills that will prepare students for EAP 105.

Prerequisite: Appropriate placement test score, C or higher in EAP 65, or instructor permission.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Speak for understanding and clarity through partner interviews, group discussions, and presentations.
  2. Use level-appropriate vocabulary, focusing on pronunciation and specific intonation patterns.
  3. Take notes (Cornell, alpha-numeric, etc.) from academic lectures and media.
  4. Present concepts using research from level-appropriate sources.
  5. Use select media such as Microsoft PowerPoint and/or videos to give presentations on assigned topics.
  6. Utilize key words, abbreviations, and symbols in notes.
  7. Ask content questions about peers’ presentations and class discussions.
  8. Participate in on-campus activities, volunteering in the community, and the Conversation Partner Program for experiential engagement with English.
  9. Communicate how power, privilege, equity, and empathy affect our daily lives by engaging with culturally and linguistically diverse texts and media.
