EAP 105 - Bridge I: Communication Skills

Course Description: A course for English language learners with an emphasis on communication skills that will prepare students for future academic courses.

Prerequisite: Appropriate placement test score, C or higher in EAP 75, or instructor permission.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Understand main points in group discussions, presentations, and debates.
  2. Expand level-appropriate academic vocabulary with correct pronunciation and usage.
  3. Use effective discussion strategies, including agreeing/disagreeing, asking for clarification or confirmation, and paraphrasing.
  4. Present concepts using research from academically appropriate audio/visual sources.
  5. Use media such as Microsoft PowerPoint and/or videos to present and convey ideas.
  6. Utilize an effective note-taking system.
  7. Engage with a variety of listening genres such as lectures, documentaries, interviews, speeches, presentations, and conversations.
  8. Communicate how power, privilege, equity, and empathy affect our daily lives by engaging with culturally and linguistically diverse texts and media.
