Course Description: A course for English language learners with an emphasis on communication skills that will prepare students for future academic courses.
Prerequisite: Appropriate placement test score, C or higher in EAP 75, or instructor permission. Meets FQE Requirement: No Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Understand main points in group discussions, presentations, and debates.
- Expand level-appropriate academic vocabulary with correct pronunciation and usage.
- Use effective discussion strategies, including agreeing/disagreeing, asking for clarification or confirmation, and paraphrasing.
- Present concepts using research from academically appropriate audio/visual sources.
- Use media such as Microsoft PowerPoint and/or videos to present and convey ideas.
- Utilize an effective note-taking system.
- Engage with a variety of listening genres such as lectures, documentaries, interviews, speeches, presentations, and conversations.
- Communicate how power, privilege, equity, and empathy affect our daily lives by engaging with culturally and linguistically diverse texts and media.
