Course Description: Overview of the many diseases and conditions affecting the human body. Includes discussions of how cultural perceptions and influences affect medical disease and pathology. Disease prevention and lifestyle for health.

Prerequisite: AHE 106 or equivalent with a C or higher and department chair permission.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Discuss human disease processes related to common disorders associated with specific body systems, life stages, conditions and disorders.
  2. Summarize medical conditions associated with specific systems of the human body using the standard format: Description, etiology, diagnostic procedures, treatment, prevention, and cultural influences.
  3. Contrast and compare congenital and genetic conditions, neoplasms, and infectious diseases.
  4. Explain nutritional requirements and dietary recommendations for medical conditions associated with specific disorders and lifespan to patients.
  5. Teach patients methods of health promotion and disease prevention including nutritional recommendations for health maintenance.
  6. Locate, identify and use reliable medical references, print materials, and electronic sources.
