Course Description: Practical experience in the role of a pharmacy technician in a hospital setting to integrate knowledge and enhance skills.

Prerequisite: AHE 134 and 135 with a C grade, department chair or instructor approval, and concurrent enrollment in AHE 136 and 138.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Describe the role of the pharmacy technician in the hospital pharmacy setting, specific to the assigned experiential practice site.
  2. Apply skills and competencies learned in the classroom setting to function effectively in the workplace, as evaluated by preceptor and course instructor.
  3. Display role-appropriate professional behavior in the experiential practice site, as evaluated by preceptor and course instructor.

Course Contents
  1. Orientation to practice site.
  2. Definition of role, responsibilities and duties.
  3. Observation of pharmacist/pharmacist tech. functions at practice site.
  4. Performance of assigned tasks under observation of supervising pharmacist.
  5. Documentation of performance of all required elements delineated in course list of tasks essential to demonstrate competencies.
