Course Description: A foundation studio course in which beginning students develop observational skills to create expressive drawings using line, shape, value, space and texture.

- Correlate and develop observation and technical skills in drawing.
- Employ drawing techniques using a variety of media.
- Appreciate the diversity and creativity in the history of drawing.
- Critically analyze drawings using the vocabulary of the discipline.
Course Contents
- Using studio sessions and group exercises, students will develop observational and technical drawing skills.
- Using alternative studio exercises students will practice working with a variety of media, which may include (but not be limited to) pencil, charcoal, pastel, and ink.
- Using alternative teaching modes including lecture, video, guest lecture and gallery and/or museum visits, students will examine the variety of ways artists have used drawing as a medium of expression.
- Using notebooks, independent exercises and/or group exercises students will use critical thinking skills to develop imagery.
- Students will use critical thinking skills to evaluate and analyze their work using self assessments and open critique sessions.
