Course Description: This course is an overview of health and safety concerns in the visual arts pertaining to processes and materials used in studio courses. Information will cover hazardous materials, precautions, ventilation and disposal procedures.
Prerequisite: Grade of 2.0 or higher in ENGL 097, or AESL 098, or appropriate test score. Distribution Requirements: - Humanities Distribution Requirement

Student Learning Outcomes
- Identify those materials that are considered hazardous in studio courses.
- Students will learn how to handle hazardous materials as they are working in the studio.
- Know procedures for proper storage, handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Properly respond to a medical emergency resulting from exposure to hazardous waste in the studio.
Course Contents
- Using seminar sessions and lectures students will be introduced to hazardous materials in the studio classroom.
- Using seminar sessions, lectures and group or individual projects students will learn how to handle hazardous materials in the classroom.
- Using seminar sessions, lectures and group projects students will learn proper storage and disposal procedures for hazardous materials.
- Using role playing and group projects students will learn and outline procedures for handling a medical emergency in the studio classroom.
