Course Description: An intermediate or advanced studio course continuing the practice and refinement of vision and technique in digital and black and white photography with emphasis on content and meaning, visual structure, and presentation. Students supply materials and digital camera. No text purchase. Fully manual film cameras are available in the lab. May be retaken for up to 8 credits. Lab fee.
Prerequisite: ART 180 or ART 181 with a D or higher. Meets FQE Requirement: No Elective Requirements: Fulfills Academic Electives Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will learn advanced proficiency in black and white film development and digital application.
- Students will learn to create a portfolio of photographs related in techinque, subject matter of theme.
- Students will demonstrate skills to critically analyze their photographs using the vocabulary of the discipline.
Course Contents
- Using self directed studio and dark room exercises students will practice advanced black and white film development, photographic printing and application of darkroom and/or digital techniques.
- Using notebooks and self directed studio assignments students will develop a portfolio of photographs based on common themes, subject matter or technique.
- Using formal critique sessions an self assessments students will analyze their artwork using the vocabulary of the discipline.
