Course Description: An intermediate or advanced studio course which focuses on throwing and advanced hand-building techniques. Emphasis is on discussion and analysis. May be retaken for up to 8 credits.
Prerequisite: ART 241 with a D or higher. Meets FQE Requirement: No Elective Requirements: Fulfills Academic Electives Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate proficiency in throwing techniques
- Demonstrate proficiency in glazing methods
- Demonstrate an ability to operate a kiln
- Analyze works of clay using the vocabulary of the discipline
Course Contents
- Through alternative teaching methods including videotaping and demonstration, students expand their proficiency in methods of forming clay with emphasis on wheel throwing, glazing, and firing techniques.
- Using research and writing in journals, students will use critical thinking skills to evaluate and analyze artworks and develop ideas for clay design.
- As part of the alternative learning strategies, students will use critical thinking skills to evaluate and analyze their work using speech in open evaluations.
