AT 201 - Automotive Parts & Service Specialist

Course Description: Training in skills necessary to gain employment in the automotive parts & sales industry, and as a service writer in all types of repair facilities. Learn a variety of techniques and software applications. Emphasis on oral and written communication, organizational skills, vehicle knowledge, parts cataloging, customer service, and other necessary skills for employment.

Prerequisite: AT 101 or concurrent enrollment.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Define skill and job requirements of an Automotive Service Writer.
  2. Define skill and job requirements of an Automotive Parts Technician.
  3. Demonstrate understanding of proper people skills, customer relations, and communication skills by completing associated oral and written assignments.
  4. Demonstrate ability to manage customer complaints in diverse situations with people of diverse backgrounds by effectively engaging in classroom scenarios.
  5. Demonstrate ability to create and populate a work order by completing associated assigned tasks.  
  6. Demonstrate understanding of warranties and labor time by completing associated assigned tasks.
  7. Demonstrate ability to decode Vehicle Identification Numbers using the course taught method.
  8. Demonstrate understanding of parts invoicing and mark-up by creating sample invoices.
  9. Demonstrate ability to navigate online parts cataloging systems by correctly locating parts for assigned vehicles.
