Course Description: Chemistry introduction for those who need background before CHEM& 121. Introduces chemical symbols and nomenclature, equations, states of mater, bonding, energy, and dimensional analysis.
Prerequisite: Either placement into OR co-enrollment in OR completion of a college-level Math course with a grade of C or higher. Distribution Requirements: - Natural Sciences Distribution Requirement

Student Learning Outcomes
- Recognize and use chemical symbols for elements and compounds.
- Balance simple chemical equations.
- Solve unit-conversion and stoichiometry problems using dimensional analysis.
- Express and manipulate numbers using scientific notation and significant figures.
- Relate energy changes to chemical equations.
- Describe the basic structure of atoms and ions and relate them to their location on the Periodic table, their charge, and the number of fundamental particles.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the basic concept of chemical bonding.
- Recognize and use inorganic nomenclature for ionic compounds.
- Describe the states and properties of matter.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the mole and Avogadro’s number.
