Course Description: A continuation of CHEM& 162. Acids and bases, acid-base and solubility equilibria, electrochemistry, kinetics.

Student Learning Outcomes
- Calculate or approximate the pH of buffers, salt solutions, strong acids and bases, and weak acids and bases.
- Write the solubility product expression for a solid and use it to perform solubility calculations.
- Identify the components of a galvanic cell and calculate its potential.
- Write the rate law for a reaction and use it to perform kinetic calculations.
Course Contents
- pH, strong and weak acids and bases, ionization constants, and acid-base properties of salts.
- Buffers, acid-base titrations, and solubility equilibria.
- Oxidation-reduction reactions, galvanic cells, standard reduction potentials, thermodynamics of oxidation-reduction reactions, batteries, and electrolysis.
- Rate of reaction, rate laws, and activation energy.
