ECED 202 - Math and Science Learning for Children

Course Description: Focuses on math and science learning for children aged birth to 8 years. Explores the process of planning, selecting and preparing materials and experiences for young children. Student will work or volunteer 2 hours a week in an early learning classroom.

Prerequisite: EDUC& 115 with a D or higher.

  1. Explain the development of mathematical thinking in children aged birth to 8 years.
  2. Explain the development of scientific thinking in children aged birth to 8 years.
  3. Use teaching strategies to support exploration of materials, space, quantities, and physical relationships.
  4. Use teaching strategies that support observation, discovery, comparing, and hypothesizing in an active learning environment.
  5. Create science and math curriculum that is based on observation of a child’s interests.
