Course Description: Techniques of rescue company operations to gain entry to damaged vehicles, disentangle and prepare patients for transport, and extricate to safety and care. Includes scene management, heavy rescue apparatus, and equipment and practical applications.

Student Learning Outcomes

Explain the basic principles involved in emergency response, scene management, and implementing an incident command system.
Describe types of busses and extrication situations involving that type of vehicle.
Describe types of medium and heavy trucks and extrication situations involving trucks.
Given a variety of passenger automobiles, describe the basics of construction, collision characteristics, and assessing the need for extrication activities.
Given a variety of passenger vehicles and rescue equipment and while working as a member of a rescue company, stabilize a vehicle and gain entry and displace barriers to victim removal including moving or removing roofs, doors, glass, pedals, dashboards, steering columns, and seats.
Given a variety of passenger vehicles, rescue equipment, and training mannequins, perform patient removal techniques so as to insure survivability of patients.
