Course Description: For EMTs who need to acquire wilderness emergency medical skills and knowledge to be certified as Wilderness EMTs. Learn to provide patient care using improvised equipment.
Prerequisite: EMS 242 or EMT-B certification. Strongly Recommended: Special Requirements:

Student Learning Outcomes
- Prepare a backpack that includes the equipment and supplies needed to manage medical emergencies in the wilderness.
- Manage bleeding, wounds, shock, burns, and bone and joint injuries in the wilderness.
- Provide care for head, eye, face, dental, chest, abdominal, and spinal injuries in the wilderness.
- Provide care for environmental emergencies including heat illnesses, cold-related injuries and illnesses, altitude illnesses, animal and plant injuries, and lightning strikes.
- Improvise litters to transport ill and injured patients in the wilderness.
- Purify water and manage hygiene problems in the wilderness.
- Use plants from the local area to treat injuries and illnesses.
- Manage simulated medical emergencies in the wilderness.
