Course Description: Training for the EMT-Basic level per National Standards Curriculum and abiding by the laws of Washington State. Learn to recognize, assess, and treat medical and trauma-related emergencies at the basic life support level. Preparation for National Registry EMT certification testing and includes the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification practical examination for EMT-Basic.

Student Learning Outcomes
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of an allergic or diabetic reaction and be able to properly assist and treat.
- Understand the concept of bleeding, shock, hypo-perfusion, the types and causes, and effectively treat.
- Perform proper musculoskeletal care, immobilization and other trauma related injury care.
- Understand the differences in treating infants and children, common medical and trauma related emergency and proper treatments.
- Knowledge of emergency medical service operations, rescue techniques, triage, and other operational issues as they related to the EMT-Basic.
- Communicate and understand how to relate to a diverse and multicultural population in an emergency situation.
- Work as a team member.

- Pediatric, environmental, psychological, cardiac, diabetic, head, neck, spine emergencies.
- Allergies & poisoning. General pharmacology.
- Obstetrics & gynecology. Soft tissue injury.
- Burns. Principles of extrication.
- Mass casualty incidents & triage. Incident command system.
- Diverse & multi-cultural population. Teamwork.
