Course Description: Principles and conceptual overview of GIS software. Covers the use and applications in natural resource management, and other fields utilizing GIS, with hands-on experience using ArcGIS. Computer and spreadsheet familiarity required.

Student Learning Outcomes
- Identify and explain core GIS concepts, including data quality, map scale, and citation of GIS data sources.
- Choose appropriate symbols, map types, and classification methods to visualize spatial data.
- Create and edit maps that meet standard cartographic guidelines, including map layout and symbology.
- Apply spatial analysis tools including queries, joins, and overlays to answer geographic questions.
- Select and use appropriate coordinate systems and projections for mapping tasks.
- Manage and edit vector and raster data, ensuring proper data structure and metadata.
- Use GIS software to process and display spatial data, producing final map products for specific audiences.
