Course Description: With a particular emphasis on the effects of imperialism and colonialism, this course explores the social, political, and cultural changes that have occurred in the Middle East during the past two centuries, reflecting on the history of the region and the connection to present conflicts.

Student Learning Outcomes
- Identify and understand the historic origins of the political, religious, and cultural conflicts that exist in the Middle East today.
- Define the terms associated with study of the Middle East.
- Exercise a workable knowledge of the geography of the Middle East
- Clarify and connect the history of the region to its broader impact on contemporary events.
- SOCIAL SCIENCES: Apply concepts from the social sciences to analyze individual or social phenomena, processes, events, conflicts, or issues.
