Course Description: Introduction to the stages of human development with particular attention to adult life development. Explores the relevance of ethnicity, culture, gender, socioeconomic class, sexual orientation and community in a person’s development. Required course for both Human Services degrees (including fast track students).

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Discuss human development within the context of the delivery of human services to individuals and families.
  2. Review concepts of change and stability in the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial domains.
  3. Identify a variety of ethical and professional issues related to the study of human development.
  4. Recognize the importance of “timing” in the development of certain domains over the life span.  
  5. Discuss the intersection of identities such as race, culture, class, gender, socioeconomics, and sexual orientation and the impact on development.
