Course Description: Provides the opportunity to pursue substance use disorder counseling qualifications to learn how to work with children and adolescents in an effective manner. Required course for students seeking the Substance Use Disorder Counseling degree (including fast track students).

- Define the essential elements of developmentally and culturally appropriate prevention programs for adolescents.
- Define the essential elements of age and culturally appropriate substance use disorder treatment programs for adolescents.
- Define the importance of using age appropriate, developmentally appropriate and culturally appropriate screens and assessments in substance use disorder treatment settings.
- Identify the full continuum of symptoms which define adolescent drug use, drug abuse, and drug dependency.
- Identify appropriate community-based services as resources to assist adolescents with health care and social needs.
