INV 075 - INVEST Practicum Seminar

Course Description: Students participate in the practicum seminar while simultaneously completing community-based internships, combining classroom theory with practical experience gained in the workplace. The practicum experiences are tied directly to students’ career goals and employment plan developed with Employment Consultant and employment agency. Students will discuss and track progress toward practicum learning outcomes, discuss issues and concerns that happen on the job with instructors and peers, and role-play effective on the job communication strategies.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Complete accurate, thoughtful, and high quality learning objectives, and additional cooperative education documentation including agency required reporting.
  2. Self-evaluate progress made on practicum learning outcomes.
  3. Perform and describe assigned duties in a friendly and courteous manner and accept feedback.
  4. Demonstrate and document effective communication with a variety of people and contribute to a team environment.
  5. Document arrival to the workplace on time for scheduled work hours, prepared for work, and professional in appearance.
  6. Identify ways to show initiative and ways for improvement in the completion of assigned tasks.
  7. Analyze problems and choose and discuss appropriate solutions, seeking clarification when necessary.
  8. Communicate and document real world experience related to career goals.

Course Contents
  1. Site selection with Employment Consultant and meets department and agency criteria
  2. Goal-setting and development of measurable learning objectives
  3. Weekly summary or progress toward goals are turned in to Employment Consultant listing hours worked, duties performed, and skills developed and includes reflection and comfort level performing tasks and duties
  4. Completion of employer and student evaluation forms
