Course Description: Introduction to Japanese culture and language with emphasis on speaking, listening, and comprehension of the spoken word.
Prerequisite: Grade of 2.0 or higher in ENGL 097, or AESL 098, or appropriate test score. Meets FQE Requirement: No Elective Requirements: Fulfills Academic Electives Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Develop basic conversation skills

- Acquire basic vocabulary
- Gain rudimentary knowledge of Japanese culture and customs
Course Contents
- Introduce him/herself and others
- Give appropriate greetings and phrases as occasion demands
- Ask for direction in Japanese and give directions
- Communicate to travel by bus, taxi, and train
- Show proper manners as guest in a Japanese home
- Count and pay for goods and services
- Tell time and understand time
- Order food from a menu or display case
- Ask for merchandise in store
