MIT 149 - Introduction to Web Page Design

Course Description: Introduction to the technologies and concepts associated with website design and development. Create and design websites using HTML5 and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS3). Student websites will be published and critiqued.

Strongly Recommended: Computer literacy and file management skills.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Understand and use HTML5 to design and develop web pages.
  2. Understand and identify the components of web pages.
  3. Understand the phases of website design and development, and properly use HTML5 and CSS3 syntax.
  4. Design and author HTML5 files using text editors.
  5. Incorporate text, images, graphics, text formats, and document formatting into web pages.
  6. Use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS3) to control the type specification and layout of web pages.
  7. Understand and use website design principles to develop a website with a specific purpose and target audience in mind.
  8. Test a website for cross-platform, cross-browser and multi-device usability. 
  9. Compare pricing and service offered by different webhosting companies.
  10. Upload a website to a web server and understand the importance of maintaining a website.
  11. Analyze and critique student websites following basic design and usability principles.
