Course Description: Theory and hands-on experience in marine inboard engine drive systems with emphasis on transmissions, running gear, controls, and steering systems. Gain proficiency with maintenance, repair, installation, and troubleshooting techniques, and cultivate an understanding of industry standards and recommended practices.

Student Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of marine drivetrain components, operation, and service by passing the final exam with a competency of at least 70%.
- Identify and perform maintenance procedures on various marine transmission types according to manufacturer recommendations.
- Perform industry standard maintenance and repair procedures on marine drivetrain components, including propeller shaft inspection, shaft seal service, shaft bearing replacement, propeller removal/installation, coupling removal/installation, and engine mount replacement.
- Align an engine/transmission assembly with the propeller shaft to within 0.001” per inch of coupling diameter.
- Service mechanical and hydraulic steering systems in accordance with manufacturer and industry standards.
- Install and adjust cable throttle and shift controls according to manufacturer specifications.
- Demonstrate the ability to access and interpret technical information, using service manuals and online sources, for use in drivetrain installation, repair, and service.
