MUSC 213 - Advance Piano Class

Course Description: MUSC 213 is a continuation of MUSC 113. This course is in sync with keyboard expectations in the music transfer degree. Careful attention will be given to technical elements of playing, such as scales, chords, arpeggios, progressions, transpositions, sight reading and ensemble playing required to pass the piano proficiency exam at a 4-year transfer institution. Required for music majors.

Prerequisite: MUSC 113 with a C or higher.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Sight-read an open score, in tempo, and  two parts at once, from an open four-part vocal score.  
  2. Transpose a melody for a B-flat clarinet, and F horn or a viola (alto clef).
  3. Perform one piece of ensemble music in class with another student/teacher.
  4. Harmonize a simple melody using V7/V chords.
  5. Prepare a solo piano piece to perform in class from the intermediate repertoire or above as required by the transfer institution’s piano proficiency exam.
  6. Sight read a 4-part hymn.  
  7. Play scales in all major and minor keys, 4 octaves hands together.
