Course Description: Applied music instruction. Individual instruction in voice or instrument for music majors only which focuses on the practical application of musical principles to performance. Must be concurrently enrolled in one of the following: MUSC& 141, 142, 143 or 241, 242, 243. May also be taken by non-music majors depending on circumstance. No more than 1 credit per quarter to a maximum of 6 credits.
Prerequisite: Music Dept. Chair permission required. Audition may be required. Meets FQE Requirement: No Music Lesson: Yes Elective Requirements: Fulfills Academic Electives Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Student’s ability to perform will be enhanced.
- Student will have knowledge of his/her voice and the techniques needed to master performance.
- Student will become familiar with various musical styles and genres as they apply to his/her level of ability.
- Students will sing in one or more foreign languages.
Course Contents
- Vocal technique: breath support, tone placement, intonation, phrasing, diction.
- Repertoire appropriate to the student’s ability.
- Performance in the end of the quarter recitals required.
