Course Description: Beginning tennis is designed for students who desire formal instruction in tennis and/or those who cannot perform the basic strokes well enough to enjoy a baseline game. The basic skills and techniques for singles and doubles will be presented with emphasis on the forehand drive, backhand drive, basic volley and serve.

Student Learning Outcomes
- Perform the four basic strokes: forehand drive; backhand drive; serve; volley.
- Play singles and doubles matches with and against players of diverse skills and strategies. Showing knowledge of basic rules, strategy and technique.
- Incorporate the cultural history of the game of tennis.
Course Contents
- Values (emphasis on carry over activity for recreation play and connecting with players of different cultures and diverse skill levels through play).
- Tennis etiquette and sportsmanship.
- Equipment and facilities.
- Rules of lawn tennis.
- Score keeping may be done in different languages, based on the class diversity.
- Court markings.
- Beginning strategy of singles and doubles.
- Footwork.
- Practice and analysis of the four basic strokes: forehand drive; backhand drive; serve (emphasis on “”second serve”“) - slice service; volley.
