Course Description: Basic First Aid, safety regulations and CPR. First Aid cards will be issued upon completion and are valid for two years.
Prerequisite: None. Meets FQE Requirement: No PE Requirement: Non-Activity PE Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Perform first aid procedures for: shock; FBO - child, infant and adult; CPR - child, infant and adult (1 and 2 person); Severe and minor bleeding; Fractures and splinting; First, second, and third degree burns; Various types of heat and cold exposure; Stroke, heart attack, fainting, and epilepsy; Oral poisoning; Substance abuse; AED (Automated External Defibrillator) Use; Identify functions and structures of each body system.
Course Contents
- Introduction to first aid: first aid hurry cases; standard procedures for most first aid situations.
- Shock.
- F.B.O. (choking) and C.P.R.; adult - 1 and 2 person; child.
- Wounds.
- Fractures and splinting.
- Burns (1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree).
- Heat and cold exposure.
- Sudden illness; heart attack; stroke; fainting; epilespy.
- Poisoning (irritant and corrosive poisons).
- Drugs (depressant and convulsive drugs).
