Course Description: An individualized exercise program including periodic health screenings and job related fitness assessments. Course designed to prepare students to meet physical job performance testing requirements for the fire department.
Prerequisite: PE 161 with a D or higher. Meets FQE Requirement: No PE Requirement: Activity PE Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Upon completion of this course the student will be able to: Design and follow fitness programs incorporating cardiovascular, flexibility, muscular endurance, and muscular strength activities. Track heart rates. Demonstrate progression in health and fitness levels as assessed through periodic health and fitness assessments. Apply appropriate safety precautions. Perform and achieve minimum standards on periodic job related physical skill assessments similar to what will be required upon application for employment.
Course Contents
- Target heart rate calculation, monitoring and tracking.
- Designing a balanced fitness program including cardiovascular and strength training components.
- Physically perform series of simulated job scene physical activities.
- Basic nutrition principles.
- Proper training methods.
- Understand and achieve established minimum physical ability levels as they relate to job performance.
