Course Description: An overview of the factors affecting behavior including topics related to: theories of learning, the senses, perception, nervous system, emotions, personality theory, motivation, abnormal behavior and therapy, and social psychology.
Prerequisite: ENGL 099 with a C or higher (or placement into ENGL& 101). Distribution Requirements: - Social Sciences Distribution Requirement

- Correctly distinguish between contemporary perspectives in psychology by describing their similarities and differences.
- Accurately recognize the influence of nature and nurture on human behavior through descriptions and observations of behavior.
- Identify findings in current research through accessing academic databases.
- Describe the process of learning and memory using real-life examples.
- Analyze the dynamic influence on human behavior and cognition by using major concepts in psychology.
- SOCIAL SCIENCES: Identify social variables, structures, and experiences that shape individual perspectives.

- List all major topics to be covered during the quarter: Method of science as applied to psychology; Function and structure of the nervous system; Theories of learning; Principles of perception; Theories of emotion; Motivation; Types of abnormal behavior; Major personality theories; Types of therapy; Developmental psychology; Social psychology.
