Course Description: Develop professionalism and productivity in a work place environment. Troubleshoot, analyze, and perform diagnosis and repair on a variety of automotive systems and vehicles. Emphasis will be placed on industry standards, communication, flat-rate production, and customer satisfaction.
Prerequisite: AT 141 with a D grade or higher; and concurrent enrollment in AT 199 and MANF 121. Meets FQE Requirement: No Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Conduct safe practices around all major vehicle systems service hazards while working in the lab.
- Diagnose a variety of vehicle systems with problems on live vehicles.
- Work independently with minimal instructor assistance while performing inspection, diagnosis, parts requests, repairs, and repair verification on live vehicles.
- Correctly complete a professional level work order by writing complete and detailed descriptions of diagnostic and repair work.
- Communicate effectively with shop management and service personnel by explaining diagnostic and repair processes and submitting accurate and complete parts requisitions.
- Meet or exceed flat-rate time by tracking hours performed on vehicle diagnostic and repairs jobs and comparing to printed flat-rate times
Course Contents
- Perform repairs and/or maintenance on brake and suspension systems.
- Perform repairs and/or maintenance on engine fuel and emissions systems.
- Perform repairs and/or maintenance on automatic and manual transmissions, including clutches and differentials.
- Perform repairs and/or maintenance on electrical systems, including charging, starting, battery, lighting and other electrical systems.
- Perform repairs and/or maintenance on engine ignition and computer controlled systems.
- Perform repairs and/or maintenance on gasoline and diesel engines.
- Perform repairs and/or maintenance on vehicle heating and air conditioning systems.
- Writing detailed service reports.
- Maximizing flat-rate time.
- Customer service and employer/employee roles.
