Course Description: Culmination of the BASM program. Students will be asked to synthesize their learning through the creation of a professionally presented evidence driven strategic plan in a field of their professional interest. Students will reflect on their exploration of culture bound assumptions and will be asked to develop a plan to transfer their program learning to a workplace and career context.

Student Learning Outcomes

Formulate a systematic approach to evidence/data-based problem solving by investigating a self-defined workplace issue or opportunity.
Construct an integrated strategic plan that addresses a self-defined workplace issue or opportunity.
Set up sustained transfer of learning from academic to performance context by creating a personal application plan that synthesizes program learning and designs a path for workplace implementation.
Evaluate their exploration of culture bound assumptions and bias in managerial decision making via self-reflection.
Demonstrate professional presence by modeling workplace appropriate norms such as meeting deadlines and articulate communication.

Course Contents

Importance and relevance of planning in a business and distinguish between various types of plans (operational, strategic, functional) and the application of each.
Relationships between different business functions and the impact that actions and choices in one might have on others.
Analysis of external and internal factors affecting a company’s or industry’s operating environment.
Situation analyses into actionable assessments.
Related strategies and action plans.
Measures to track performance.
“What if” scenarios and develop contingency plans.
A final plan that integrates acquired functional knowledge.
