Course Description: Provides the fundamental and technical knowledge needed to conduct basic fire inspections and apply codes and standards. Assists the student in meeting the job performance requirements of NFPA 1031, Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner, for Fire Inspector 1. Prepares the student for Washington State certification testing for Fire Inspector I.

Student Learning Outcomes

Conduct fire safety inspections of new and existing structures and properties for construction, occupancy, fire protection, and exposures.
Prepare correspondence and inspection reports, handling of complaints, and maintenance of records.
Participate in legal proceedings related to code enforcement.
Maintain an open dialogue with plan examiners and emergency response personnel.
PROGRAM OUTCOME: Students will understand how various work environments can affect development of hostile fire conditions.
PROGRAM OUTCOME: Students will possess a knowledge and skill set that allows them to be effective in preventing hostile fire emergencies occurring in their community.
