Course Description: In this course, students explore federal, state, tribal, and local government organization and procedures, as well as their histories and underlying philosophies. This includes study of primary source materials that serve as foundational documents for these systems of government.
Prerequisite: HSC 018 or ELA 018 with a C or higher (or concurrent enrollment). Meets FQE Requirement: No Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Describe the structure and functions of federal, state, tribal, and local governments.
- Describe the rights and responsibilities of citizens addressed in the original U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, and constitutional amendments.
- Evaluate key ideals and principles outlined in the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.
- Analyze current issues (ballot measures and initiatives) addressed at each level of government.
- Evaluate the importance in a free society of living the basic values and character traits specified in RCW 28A.150.211.
