Course Description: Introduction to proper tool selection and operations for marine technicians. Topics include advanced electrical investigations, additional multi-meter operations, creating new dash arrangements with plastic laminate installation, and many other industry recognized tool skillsets.
Prerequisite: MT 105 with a D or higher. Meets FQE Requirement: No Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Utilize electrical equipment to investigate electrical faults.
- Utilize technician applications & software to design electrical systems.
- Apply marine wiring best practices when completing electrical lab exercises.
- Design, layout and construct a marine dashboard.
Course Contents
- General tool safety requirements and safe practices.
- Prepare a vessel for work: Pre-prep a vessel based on scope of work order; Materials (Plastic carpet, paper, other).
- Working with plastic laminates: Proper layout of equipment; Shaping and forming tools; Working with contact cement and other adhesives.
- Proper use of multi-meter and other electrical diagnostic tools.
- Power tools and hand tools, i.e. drills, laminate cutters, and routers; tools for cutting round holes; and planers and jointers.
- Proper wiring techniques, i.e. labeling wires, securing wiring, and proper wiring diagrams.
