Course Description: Learn the fundamentals of relational database design and management including normalization techniques for efficient data storage. Through practical exercises, perform operations such as inserting, updating, and deleting data in a relational database environment. The development of views to support reporting and enhance data accessibility and usability is included.
Prerequisite: DATA 130 with a C or higher; or Dept. Chair permission. Meets FQE Requirement: No Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Design a relational database using appropriate procedures.
- Write Structured Query Language (SQL) statements to insert, update, and delete data.
- Create and normalize data relationships.
- Create views in a RDBMS that support various analytics and reporting scenarios.
- PROGRAM OUTCOME: Efficiently store and retrieve data in a relational database using a relational database management system and Structured Query Language.
