Course Description: Corequisite support course for MATH& 146. Topics include order of operations, fraction and decimal conversions, applications involving percentages, solving linear, rational and radical equations, and graphing. College success strategies addressing time management, test taking strategies, and study skills are reinforced throughout the course. Concurrent enrollment in MATH& 146 required.
Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in Math 096; placement into Math 097 or Math 098. Meets FQE Requirement: No Integrative Experience Requirement: No

- Use decimals, fractions, and percentages in applications
- Convert between scientific notation and standard notation
- Correctly interpret mathematical notation including function notation, subscripts, and plus/minus signs
- Evaluate expressions with integer exponents
- Translate inequalities from English into mathematical statements
- Obtain information from tables
- Use computing technology to organize data and evaluate expressions
- Distinguish between variables and constants to evaluate formulas
Course Contents
- Basic Math. Scientific notation. Rounding rules. Decimals, fractions, percents. Area of a rectangle. Find the midpoint of two values.
- Basic Algebra. Solve linear equations. Evaluate expressions involving multiple variables and constants. Inequalities.
- Basic technology literacy. Create and sort lists. Graph equations and scatter plots. Evaluate complex expressions.
- Mathematical literacy. Vocabulary for inequalities (“at least”, “at most”, “more than”, “less than” etc.). Mathematical notation including ± (plus minus), subscripts, and function notation. Obtain information from tables. Ability to critically read math.
