Course Description: Corequisite support course for MATH& 107. Intermediate algebra topics including linear and exponential functions, graphing, and inequalities. College success strategies addressing time management, math anxiety, and study skills are reinforced throughout the course. Concurrent enrollment in MATH& 107 required.
Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in Math 096; placement into Math 097 or Math 098. Meets FQE Requirement: No Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Evaluate expressions involving powers, square roots, fractions, and absolute value
- Use function notation in context of various mathematical applications
- Use the order of operations in complex expressions both by hand and using technology
- Find and graph linear functions including plotting points, use of slope and intercept
- Solve applications involving proportions and linear equations
- Use decimals, fractions, and percentages in applications
- Use variables and formulas in context, including area and volume, and finance
Course Contents
- Basic Arithmetic Skills. Integers, fractions, decimals, real numbers. Order of operations. Rounding. Number line concepts. Basic exponents.
- Algebra. Solve linear equations and proportions. Use variables and formulas. Generate and/or interpret a table of values. Graph lines using points, slope, and intercept.
- Geometry. Use basic area and volume formulas. Use mathematical constants like π (pi) and e in applications.
- Other. Critical reading. Study skills. Time management skills.
