DT 113 - Dental Therapy Lab III

Course Description: Place dental sealants, apply fluoride varnish, silver diamine fluoride (SDF), and povidone iodine. Practice SMART, Hall technique for placing stainless steel crowns (SSC), head and neck examinations, prophylaxis, placing and removing periodontal dressings, and suture removal.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Dental Therapy (DT) coursework from previous quarter.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Place sealants on typodont.
  2. Demonstrate correct operator position, grasp, and fulcrum using principles of ergonomics.
  3. Apply SDF on typodont.
  4. Apply SMART on typodont.
  5. Use Hall technique for placing SSC on typodont.
  6. Perform a head and neck exam on a classmate.
  7. Restore anatomical integrity for non-carious cervical lesions, Class I and V caries.  
  8. Self-assess the quality of amalgam and composite restorations on typodonts using the preclinical operative rubric.
  9. Complete 40 designs in Learn-a-Prep block.
  10. Self-assess performance using preclinical rubric for dental sealants, silver diamine fluoride, SMART, and Hall technique for stainless steel crowns.
