Course Description: Review topics learned in previous courses with an emphasis on critical thinking and integrating the knowledge and skill sets into direct care scenarios. Includes additional instruction covering topics related to removable prosthetics including repair of removable defective prosthetic appliances, fabrication and placement of single tooth temporary crowns, and placement and removal of space maintainers. Includes advanced topics and instruction related to the provision of clinical care within the scope of dental therapy practice.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Dental Therapy (DT) coursework from previous quarter. Meets FQE Requirement: No Integrative Experience Requirement: No
Student Learning Outcomes
- Describe different types of dental prosthetic appliances.
- Discuss common problems patients may have with removable dental prostheses.
- Explain dental infection control practices when working in the dental lab.
- Discuss different methods to clean and store removable prostheses.
- Describe process to make minor adjustments and repairs of removable defective prostheses.
- Demonstrate technical skills to repair removable defective prostheses including adjustments.
- Explain the indications and importance of placing space maintainers.
- Describe process for placement and removal of space maintainers.
- Demonstrate technical skills for delivery of space maintainers on a typodont including placement and removal.
- Demonstrate technical skills needed to deliver a single tooth temporary crown including fabrication and cementation.
- Demonstrate technical skills needed to recement permanent crowns.
