Course Description: Prepares students to recognize, respond and manage cardiac emergencies. An American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers card will be issued upon completion of written test and skills demonstration.

Student Learning Outcomes
- Promptly recognize and respond to life threatening emergencies.
- Demonstrate appropriate ventilations. Rescue breaths. Bag valve masks. Airway obstruction.
- Demonstrate high quality CPR for adults, children, and infants with one rescuer or two rescuers.
- Use an automated external defibrillator (AED) during a cardiac emergency.
- Explain the importance of early use of an AED during a cardiac emergency.
Course Contents
- Procedures for Cardiac Arrest/heart attack. High quality CPR for infants, children, and adults. Effective ventilation.
- Effective ventilations for Breathing Emergencies. Barrier device for rescue breathing. Bag valve mask device.
- Relief of foreign-body obstruction for adults, children, and infants.
- Emphasis on early use the automated external defibrillator during a cardiac emergency.
- American Heart Association Chain of survival- with BLS components.
- Team dynamics in a multi-rescuer resuscitation.
