Course Description: ELA Level 4-2 (High Intermediate ESL). Students improve English listening, speaking, reading, and writing and comprehension with a goal to develop college and career readiness skills. Prepares students for transition to ELA 43.

Prerequisite: Receive a P grade in ELA 41 (or placement into ELA 42).

  1. Organize key details in text.
  2. Categorize the eight parts of speech in Standard American English in text.
  3. Find capitalization and punctuation errors in text by applying Standard American English rules.
  4. Organize parts of a paragraph using transition words and/or phrases.
  5. Prepare questions and/or responses using agreed-upon norms to participate in class discussions.
  6. Use the Present Perfect tense.
  7. Identify comparative, superlative, and equative adjective forms in text.
  8. Differentiate between the first and second “If” conditionals.
  9. Create a basic resume using a template.
  10. Translate math word problems into corresponding math equations.
  11. Use technology to produce coursework.
