Course Description: Learn the fundamental principles and concepts of the structure of language, with a focus on phonological awareness and phonics in both Spanish and English. Contents include the sound-symbol correspondences of language and the relationship of phonemic awareness and the phonological system of language to the reading process.
Prerequisite: ECED 402 with a C or higher. Meets FQE Requirement: No Integrative Experience Requirement: No

- Describe the relationship between phonemes and graphemes.
- Describe different syllable patterns and how they affect pronunciation and decoding, including both regular and irregular spelling patterns.
- Explain common spelling rules.
