Course Description: ESOL Level 1-1 (Beginning ELA Literacy) students improve English listening, speaking, reading, and writing and comprehension with a goal to develop college and career readiness skills. Prepares students for transition to ESOL 12.
Prerequisite: Placement into ESOL 11 or equivalent. Meets FQE Requirement: No Integrative Experience Requirement: No

- Identify common expressions in text and oral communication.
- Identify simple Yes/No questions and some Wh- questions, such as who, what, when, where, why, or how.
- Identify the “to be” verb forms in the Present Simple tense.
- Recognize basic verbs of preference, such as “to want” and “to like”“.
- Recall information from experiences or from a provided source.
- Recognize common short and long vowel sound patterns.
- Recognize subjects and verbs in sentences.
- Recognize basic parts of speech.
- Recognize basic personal information vocabulary.
