Course Description: Focuses on foundational Computer-Aided Design (CAD) techniques such as 2D drafting and simple 3D modeling, along with basic Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) processes such as generating toolpaths for devices like laser cutters or 3D printers. Practice creating toolpaths, managing files, and using measurement feedback to refine digital models, emphasizing clear, organized workflows aligned with modern manufacturing practices.

  3. Basic 3D Modeling: Extrude, revolve, and simple assembly constraints.
  4. File Management: Version control, naming conventions, project folders.
  5. Slicing Software: Infill settings, support material, bed leveling for 3D printing.
  6. Tolerances & Fits: Translating design intent into dimensioning, using WMATH 100 geometry.
  7. Basic Material Considerations: Polymers’ melt points, thickness limits for laser cutting.
  8. Measurement Feedback Loop: Taking real parts from Production Lab II, comparing to CAD specs.
  9. Basic Troubleshooting: Common print failures, laser misalignment, bridging solutions.
  10. Team Critiques & Communication: Presenting design updates, discussing design flaws/solutions.
