ART 107 - Life Drawing

Course Description: An introduction to observing and drawing the human form. This course will emphasize visual communication through studio work, discussion and analysis. Note: Students will be drawing from the nude model in class.

Prerequisite: Grade of 2.0 or higher in ENGL 097, or EAP 098, or appropriate test score.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Explain how the representation of the human form in visual images influences effective visual communication.
  2. Analyze figural compositions using visual design vocabulary.

Course Contents
  1. Using presentations, electronic media, gallery/museum visits, and/or texts, students will examine the ways artists have communicated through representational drawings of the human form.
  2. Students will analyze figural drawings (theirs and the work of others) through self-assessment, group critique, group projects, and/or exams.
  3. Students will observe the human figure to create visual images.
  4. Students will create unique art objects that effectively communicate ideas.
