Course Description: An introduction to the fundamental principles and elements of two-dimensional design. This course will emphasize visual communication and problem solving through studio work, discussion and analysis.

Prerequisite: ENGL 099 with a C or higher (or placement into ENGL& 101).

Course Contents

Using presentations, electronic media, gallery/museum visits, and/or texts, students will examine the elements and principles of design and the influence they have upon effective visual communication.
Students will analyze design work (theirs and the work of others) through self-assessment, group critique, group projects, and/or exams.
Students will use the design process to problem solve and create two-dimensional compositions that demonstrate understanding of the design elements and principles.
Students will create unique images that effectively communicate ideas.
