Program Overview

The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program at Skagit Valley College (SVC) offers students a robust foundation in the principles, applications, and tools of GIS technology. GIS enables the collection, management, and analysis of data linked to geographic locations, and allows users to create dynamic, data-driven maps and visualizations. The spatial approach of GIS plays a critical role in modern data analysis in fields such as natural resource management, urban planning, conservation, environmental management, emergency response, and more.

SVC’s program focuses on building technical skills in industry-standard software, field data collection, and spatial data integration. GIS professionals support data-driven decision-making for public agencies, environmental organizations, research institutions, and private companies.
